Task 3 Post 5 - Film and Evaluation

I think that the drama task went well because we wanted to
produce something that was funny but also got the seriousness of mental health
across and I think we have done that. We only had a short number of characters
and locations to work with but we have a simple idea in mind so this wasn’t a problem.
I think if we were to do it again then would have chosen to do it when were was
no snow around. This is because when we started shooting in the morning it had
recently snowed so the snow was fresh and everywhere. But when we were still
filming a few hours later the snow had started to melt and it didn’t look fresh
so we had a little continuity error because in the film Ben had one walked for
a few minutes but on screen it looked like he had been walking all day. Another
thing we’d do differently if we to do this again would be dub the audio. We
have a few lines of dialogue that take place in the centre of town which we
tried to get but we couldn’t get clean audio because town was really busy. We
ended up dubbing the audio but next time we would do this straight away because
when we brought it up at the presentation nobody noticed. So this was the
better option for this particular scene.
I think we worked will as a team for this drama. This is because
we have all worked with each other before so we all knew what each of us was
good at and what we needed help with. We all had our specific roles but helped
each other out when we were free. I was the sound recorder but also helped out
editing and with the camera. When we all sat down at the start, Josh had the
initial idea but we all helped flush it out into what it is now. I think this
was successful because the drama that we made turned out well received.
When we watched the short dramas in class we took inspiration
from the short film Pudding Bowl by Vanessa Caswill and was made in 2009. This
short film is about a boy who is stuck inside with his sister. He wants to go
outside and play with his friends. He creates a diversion so he can leave, he
does this by pouring glue in his sister’s hair. Once he is outside playing with his friends
his sister gets her revenge by stealing his bike and riding away on it. This
gave us the idea of making the comedy element simple but effective. We didn’t
need a complicated plot with constant jokes being told. But a simple plot with
a simple and funny ending.
