Shooting exercise 1
For this exercise we had to shoot footage and record sound
at two different locations and put the two together. We did this is pairs, one
of us shot the footage and the other one recorded the sound. We stared at the
union building and walked in opposite directions for 15 minutes. I ended up
walking to a busy construction site and a car park. Even though they were next
to each other one was really busy and noisy and the other one was really quiet
which. This made me realise that even though the sound and footage was shoot separately
at different places it could be put together and still make sense to the
viewer. I would compare our work to that of Joe King and Rosie Pedlow and their
work called Strange Lights. I think our work is similar because even though the
footage and the audio are two completely separate. They link up work well
together and the viewer can take in both the audio and visuals and understand
what is going on. One piece of work that contrasts our work is The Clearing
with Derek Jarman. Not only is this because his footage was shot at a different
location. His was shot in a forest whereas ours was shot in a city. Also ours
has clear edits whereas his flows form one shot to the next. But his audio
links up to the footage and gives us a clear understanding of what is going on.
